Who built this serial, to which revision, from which material lot, with which tools, and what evidence stands behind each step — kept attached to the unit when it is packed and shipped, so the production record and the shipping record are the same record.
The production record lives in one place and the shipping record in another, and they do not reconcile. When a customer asks for the build history of a serial, or a supplier reports a bad material lot, someone spends days joining spreadsheets, travellers and inspection sheets to answer a question that should take a query.
Parts carry revisions, and routings are versioned — a new version is created, an existing one is never edited in place. Material lots are received and consumed into units, and units into higher assemblies, so genealogy runs both ways: the as-built tree of a serial downward, and every unit that consumed a given lot upward.
A unit cannot be released while an operation is incomplete, required evidence is missing, a nonconformance is open or a contract flow-down is unresolved. Release refuses with a list of exactly what is outstanding. The only way past an open nonconformance is a recorded disposition with a named signer — so an override is a record, never a parameter.
An operation refuses to complete if the operator does not hold a currently valid certification for it, or if a named tool has no calibration in force. Completion snapshots the calibration state at that moment, so the record still shows what was true on the day after a tool's calibration later lapses.
A released unit is packed into a shipment, and the shipment manifest names the serials, parts and provenance it carries. A unit that has not been released cannot be packed. The conformance record of a shipped unit stays available — shipping does not erase it — and its digest can be verified publicly without exposing the record itself.
Your customers submit order requests and follow their progress through a portal of their own. They see their orders and nothing else — not units, not serials, not build steps, not other customers' orders, and not that any exist.
